Tour Details

The Qeswachaka Bridge Tour will take us deep into the heart of living Andean tradition and cultural resilience. With Palcoyo Tours, we will travel south of Cusco to witness a marvel of Inca engineering still rebuilt every year by hand. The Qeswachaka Inka Bridge, woven entirely from natural ichu grass, will offer more than a view—it will offer meaning. This tour will connect us with centuries of history preserved by local communities with pride and precision.

As we explore the surrounding highlands, we will pass the beautiful “4 Lagoons” region, home to Pomacanchi, Acopia, Asnaqocha, and Pampamarca. These lakes, resting at high altitudes, reflect the Andes and the sky in perfect harmony. Along the way, we may observe villagers tending to flocks of llamas and alpacas in wide-open fields. Nature and tradition will combine to shape a vivid and authentic Andean landscape.

The Qeswachaka Inka Bridge spans 28 meters and sits at 3,700 meters above sea level. Every year, local families will rebuild it using ancient techniques passed down through generations. This bridge will not just unite two riverbanks—it will unite past and present. Walking across it could challenge our balance, but it will deepen our respect for Andean culture.

This tour, operated by Palcoyo Tours, will suit anyone seeking a rare cultural experience away from mainstream routes. We will discover a living heritage that few travelers witness. With every step, we will connect with a legacy of strength, unity, and ancestral knowledge. The Qeswachaka Bridge Tour will leave us transformed—by nature, by history, and by the people who protect both.

Itinerary

Full-Day Adventure to Qeswachaka

We will start early, with pickup from our hotel in Cusco between 4:00 AM and 4:45 AM. After a scenic 1:30-hour drive 78 km, we will reach Cusipata, a peaceful town in the Andes. There, we will enjoy a buffet breakfast made with local ingredients and surrounded by mountain views. The calm morning air and fresh flavors will prepare us for a full day of discovery.

After breakfast, we will continue our drive toward Pomacanchi Lake, the first of the famous “4 Lagunas”. This quiet body of water sits at 3,600 meters and reflects the wide Andean sky. We may see ducks gliding over the water and alpacas grazing nearby.

From there, we will explore the full 4-lake circuit, including Acopia, Asnaqocha, and Pampamarca. These highland lakes shine with color and life. We will walk near the shores and take in the open beauty of the high Andes.

Next, we will drive for another 1:30 hours to the Apurímac River canyon, where the Qeswachaka Bridge waits. Located at 3,700 meters above sea level, the Qeswachaka Inca Bridge is a unique suspension bridge woven from ichu grass. This handmade bridge stretches 28 meters above sea level across the roaring Apurímac River.

Every year, four Quechua communities—Huinchiri, Chaupibanda, Choccayhua, and Ccollana—rebuild it using traditional methods. The thin ropes are braided to form a sturdy, flexible passage that has connected generations.

With our guide, we will learn about the rituals and skills behind Inca bridge weaving. We may cross the bridge ourselves if we feel adventurous. The bridge will sway, but it will remain strong thanks to the craftsmanship of its builders. We can also take a short boat ride to see the bridge from the river’s surface, capturing its beauty from a unique angle.

After visiting the bridge, we will return to Cusipata and enjoy a well-deserved buffet lunch. Local Andean dishes, prepared with fresh and organic ingredients, will give us a final taste of the region’s richness. Then, we will drive back to Cusco, arriving around 4:00 PM at the city’s Plaza de Armas, where the tour ends.

This days tour will give us a deeper understanding of Andean life, nature, and sacred tradition. With Palcoyo Tours, we will not just visit the Qeswachaka Inca Bridge—we will witness its meaning and strength.
